A window perch can be one of the most space-efficient ways to give an indoor cat an elevated place to rest and observe. Instead of adding another piece of floor furniture, a suitable window product uses vertical space that would otherwise do very little.
The important part is choosing the right format for your actual window, room and cat. MEWSWELL currently has three different window-enrichment designs, and they solve slightly different problems. This guide shows how to choose between them, how to use them sensibly and what to check before ordering.
For the broader behaviour-first approach, read Indoor Cat Enrichment in Small Apartments. If your main constraint is a rental agreement, also see Renter-Friendly Cat Furniture.
Why window space can work well for indoor cats
Veterinary environmental-enrichment guidance commonly recommends giving indoor cats access to hiding places, elevated resting areas, scratching opportunities and play. Elevated locations can increase the amount of usable territory in a home without requiring the same amount of floor space. The practical benefit in a small apartment is simple: a window can become both a resting place and an observation point.
That does not mean every cat needs a window hammock, or that every window is suitable. The useful question is whether your window can safely support the mounting method and whether an elevated resting spot fills a real gap in your cat's environment.
Quick comparison: which MEWSWELL window product fits your setup?

|---|---|---|
| Window Cat Hammock – Space-Saving Suction Perch | When you want a straightforward elevated perch with several size and fabric choices | Suction-mounted; 30 × 45 cm or 30 × 52 cm options; mesh and softer fabric variants |
| Window Cat Perch – Foldable Mesh & Plush Window Bed | When you want the window area to be easier to clear when the perch is not in use | Foldable stainless-steel structure; 45 × 30 cm or 52 × 30 cm; mesh or plush |
| Double-Layer Window Cat Hammock – Suction-Mounted Perch | When you want a choice between a simple perch and a two-level window setup | Suction-mounted; single- or double-layer; breathable sandwich-mesh fabric |
1. Choose the Space-Saving Window Cat Hammock if size and fabric choice matter most
The Window Cat Hammock – Space-Saving Suction Perch is the most flexible option when you mainly want a simple elevated window spot but need to choose between dimensions and surface types.
Current variants include approximately 30 × 45 cm and 30 × 52 cm sizes. Depending on the selected variant, the resting surface can be mesh or a softer fabric such as plush/flannelette-style material.
How to use it
- Choose a clear, smooth window surface appropriate for suction mounting.
- Measure the usable glass area before choosing the 45 cm or 52 cm length.
- Leave enough clearance around handles, frames, blinds and curtains.
- Install according to the product instructions and press the suction mounts firmly onto a clean surface.
- Check the mounting before use and re-check it regularly.
Who it suits
This is the strongest starting point when your priority is maximum choice in size and resting surface rather than a foldaway frame or multiple levels.

2. Choose the Foldable Window Cat Perch if you want the window area to reset easily
The Window Cat Perch – Foldable Mesh & Plush Window Bed uses a stainless-steel structure and comes in approximately 45 × 30 cm and 52 × 30 cm sizes.
Its key difference is the foldable format. That matters in a compact room when a permanent projection from the window would get in the way of cleaning, blinds, curtains or everyday use of the room.
How to use it
- Measure the usable window area and select Standard or Large based on actual clearance.
- Choose mesh when you prefer a lighter resting surface, or plush when you want a softer surface.
- Follow the supplied mounting instructions rather than improvising the attachment.
- Use the foldable function when the window area needs to be cleared.
- Inspect the structure and mounting points before allowing repeated use.
Who it suits
This version makes the most sense when the room itself has to change function during the day. A home office, studio or bedroom may benefit more from a perch that can be reduced when not needed than from the smallest possible fixed footprint.

3. Choose the Double-Layer Window Cat Hammock if you want more vertical choice
The Double-Layer Window Cat Hammock – Suction-Mounted Perch is available in both single-layer and double-layer configurations. Its cloth and sandwich-mesh construction creates a lighter window-based structure than a conventional floor-standing cat tree.
The double-layer option is useful when the reason for buying is not simply “somewhere off the floor,” but more than one usable level within the same window area.
How to use it
- Confirm that the window provides enough vertical clearance for the selected configuration.
- Use only a clean, smooth surface compatible with suction mounting.
- Check that curtains, blinds and window handles will not interfere with either level.
- Inspect all suction points before use and regularly afterward.
- If you only need one elevated resting point, compare the single-layer version rather than automatically choosing the larger configuration.
Who it suits
Choose this design when your main goal is to create more vertical choice in the same window zone. If the extra level would not actually be used or would block the window, a single-layer perch is the more efficient choice.

How to choose between mesh and plush
Surface choice is mostly about how you want the perch to function in your home.
- Mesh: lighter and more breathable in appearance, and often easier to integrate into a visually compact setup.
- Plush or softer fabric: creates a softer resting surface when comfort is the priority.
There is no universal “best” material for every cat. If your cat already shows a strong preference for soft beds, that is useful information. If the window receives strong sun or the room gets warm, a lighter mesh surface may be more practical.
Measure the window before you buy
The most avoidable mistake is choosing by product photo rather than the actual window.
Measure:
- usable glass width;
- usable glass height;
- distance to handles and window-frame edges;
- clearance for blinds or curtains;
- the route your cat will use to access the perch;
- whether furniture below the window creates a safe, practical approach.
For products with multiple sizes, compare these measurements with the exact selected variant on the product page before ordering.
Do not treat suction mounting as “install once and forget”
Suction-mounted furniture depends on surface condition and correct installation. Keep the glass and suction surfaces clean, follow the supplied instructions and inspect the attachment regularly.
If the perch shifts, a suction cup repeatedly loses grip, or any structural component becomes damaged, stop using the product until the mounting issue is resolved.
This is also why MEWSWELL describes these products as renter-conscious rather than universally damage-free: avoiding wall drilling is useful, but correct surface compatibility still matters.
Make the perch part of an enrichment setup, not the whole setup
A window perch can provide elevation, observation and rest. It does not replace scratching, active play, hiding or feeding resources.
A compact one-room setup might pair a window perch with:
- a compact scratching surface;
- a foldaway tunnel or hide that can be stored after use;
- one rotating option from Interactive Play.
This creates different functions without filling the room with several large pieces of cat furniture.
Three simple buying scenarios
You want the most straightforward window resting spot
Start with the Window Cat Hammock – Space-Saving Suction Perch. Choose the size and surface that fit your window.
You need to clear the window area regularly
The Foldable Window Cat Perch is the more relevant format because folding is part of its function, not just a storage claim.
You want more than one elevated level
Compare the Double-Layer Window Cat Hammock and select the double configuration only when the additional level fits the window and adds useful territory.

General care note: a perch or enrichment product is not a substitute for veterinary advice. If your cat suddenly stops climbing, jumping or using previously preferred elevated spaces, a veterinarian can help assess whether pain, mobility or another health issue may be involved.
